End of the Academic Year April Social!

Come join the New York Forum for Freedom close the academic year with a blast!

At 7pm on Saturday, April 23rd, the NYFF will be holding a social at BBQ Restaurant, located at 21 West 8th Street. This is an event meant to connect together libertarians of all stripes from the New York area.

Students and soon-to-be-graduates from schools in New York City and young professionals in the area are welcome. Invite your pro-liberty friends or those just curious about the ideas and looking for some friendly discussion.

Brian Aitken of the Foundation for Economic Education will be our guest speaker.

In August of 2010, Brian's wrongful conviction of illegal possession of handguns
while traveling between residences in New Jersey resulted in a 7 year prison sentence. Judicial and prosecutorial corruption in his case drew international media attention. Within two months the ‘Free Brian Aitken’ Facebook page had gained over 15,000 fans with millions of page views. NJ Governor Chris Christie finally issued an Executive Order to grant Brian clemency in December of 2010.

Currently, Brian is the Director of New Media for the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE). Founded in 1946 to advance the freedom philosophy, FEE’s mission is to offer the most consistent case for the “first principles” of freedom: the sanctity of private property, individual liberty, the rule of law, the free market, and the moral superiority of individual choice and responsibility over coerci

Travel to the 2011 International Students For Liberty Conference

For those of you who don't know, the annual International Students For Liberty Conference is the preeminent gathering of pro-liberty students in the country. It's a chance to meet fellow students from all over the country interested in advancing liberty, the diverse organizations involved in the liberty movement, and scholars and activists well-versed in the ideas of liberty.

Essentially, if you are a student, strive to advance liberty, and live within a few hours of DC, there is no excuse for not being there.

And this year's conference looks to be the best one yet. A special taping of the Stossel Show, speakers like economists Tyler Cowen and Bryan Caplan, former NM Governor Gary Johnson, breakout sessions appealing to various crowds (public policy, Austrian economics, careers in liberty, activism training, more), six free meals, tons of free materials and resources - all terrific.

You can register and find more information here.

Now, if you'd like to travel with a group down to DC, there is also an option for that. Take a look at this bus trip from New York City is being coordinated.

Welcome to the New York Forum for Freedom

Hello all,

Welcome to the New York Forum for Freedom!

A network of student-run liberty groups in the greater New York area, we will have regular meetings to voice the challenges we encounter in starting, growing, and managing student groups. We will share advice on how to overcome these challenges, and offer resources to help strengthen campus liberty groups. And we will coordinate efforts between local student groups to promote pro-liberty campus and local events.

Most of our events, communications, and discussions will occur on our Facebook group, so please join. You can also follow our twitter and mailing list for updates, and to be notified about great resources for activism and self-education.

This coalition is part of the student movement for liberty. Join us!

Sincerely,
Masood Manoochehri
